To tackle the copyright infringement and piracy of the movies, the Central Government of India gave the cabinet approval for the amendment of the Cinematograph act of 1952, where a person found camcording the movie can be fined Rs. 10 lakh or jailed for 3years..
Various anti-piracy measures have also been taken by producer councils too, but this is a welcome move by the central government.
Siddharth Roy Kapoor, president of the Producers Guild of India said, “This is a significant move to protect intellectual property in our country. This communicates to all stakeholders that as a country we respect and reward innovation and creativity, and will ensure that the rights of the owners and creators of this intellectual property are safeguarded”.
